The Best Red Carpet Looks from Met Gala 2023

By Kratika Agarwal

The most awaited fashion show of the year took place yesterday. The glamorous night with beautifully dressed stars made the first Monday of May memorable. We are, ofcourse, talking about this year’s Met Gala. Happening every year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Met Gala is a global fundraising event that is also referred to as “fashion’s biggest night out”. This year’s theme was ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty’, in honour of the late artist and designer.

This year, fans felt the absence of favourites such as Zendaya, Blake Lively, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, who were not in attendance. Even so, hundreds of celebrities brought their fashion A-game to the red carpet. Here’s a look at some of the best outfits from Met Gala 2023.

1. Anne Hathaway

The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ star Anne Hathaway flaunted her long-leg slit gown and her voluminous hairdo. She made an entrance in her platform heels with Bulgari jewels and a pair of gloves that completed her look wonderfully. Her dress was embedded with pearls and cups made of Chanel’s signature flower.

2. Michelle Yeoh

The Asian star looked absolutely stunning in her tuxedo-style gown, featuring a black and white contrast with billowy organza sleeves, a buttoned-down dress, and a glittering necklace.

3. Doja Cat

Doja Cat amused people by walking the red carpet dressed as Choupette, Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved pet cat. Her make-up complemented her look and that’s not all—she even proceeded to ‘meow’ in response to interviewers’ questions.

4. Florence Pugh in Valentino’s Pre fall collection

The actress wore a silk white backless gown and a black silk chiffon bow detail, which had been designed especially for her using 64 metres of silk. Her shaved head created a buzz as she flaunted her new hairdo with a Valentino black feather crown.

5. Jenna Ortega

Wednesday on a Monday? Jenna Ortega put her own twist to the Met Gala event. Her outfit, designed by Thom Browne, not only referred to Karl Lagerfeld’s reign at Chanel, but was also a nod to her character Wednesday Addams. She wore studded gold chains and pearl earrings to complete the look.

6. Rihanna

At this year’s Met Gala, singer and global sensation Rihanna wore a Valentino silk faille dress with a stunning 5-meter train, reminiscent of a bride on her wedding day. Her silk faille cape featured 30 camelias, 500 petals and 25 leaves.

7. Jared Leto

Jared Leto went all-out and channelled Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette for his outfit, much like Doja Cat. The Burmese cat mascot outfit came with a detachable cat head, which Leto removed to get his photos clicked.

8. Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt made her debut at the Met Gala in a dreamy white ball gown, an impressive creation by Prabal Gurung. The made-in-India dress was embellished with 1 lakh hand beaded pearls.

9. Conan Gray

The singer arrived flaunting a floor-length suit jacket with embellished pearl details and sequined sleeves, honouring the late designer with a Balmain monochrome outfit. He also carried a hand fan that matched his ensemble.

10. Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X made a statement by arriving in nothing but silver body paint, stuck-on crystals, underwear, and silver boots. His make-up artist Pat McGrath revealed that the exquisite crystal doused look took nine hours to complete. The cat inspired look represented Choupette.
